Welcome to Aanaa Yoga

Aanaa: verb; to come to, or grow out of. When coming to practice yoga my hope is that you will grow, physically, emotionally and spiritually.  Aanaa Yoga is an oasis from the outside world, where you can come to develop a personal yoga practice in a calm and nurturing environment.  Whether it’s to alleviate stess, work on or learn postures, find ways to breath better,  solutions to diminish pain, emotionally or physically, or create a beautiful God focused meditative practice, Aanaa Yoga is the place for you.  Your yoga practice is as unique as you are. My Training
My initial 200 hour teacher training was completed at Santosha Yoga in Portland, OR., a Yoga Alliance Certified Teacher Training Program. I recently completed my 500 hour teacher training with YogaFaith, a Christ centered yoga training. Going through YogaFaith I was able to keep true to my Christian roots. My Yoga for Scoliosis training was completed with Elise Browning-Miller. Elise is a scoliosis student herself who trained directly under B.K.S. Iyengar. The training required a 6 month practicum and grading process. All of these trainings have prepared me to become a well rounded yoga teacher.
Through the many group classes and private sessions I have taught hundreds of students totalling 1,000’s of hours. My experiences with many people and numerus  bodies, with strengths and limitations, have helped me to be an intuitive and compassionate teacher.
I love teaching yoga and have a goal for each class: to listen to what the student needs and to honor where the student is in that moment. Because I believe everytime we come to the mat we need something different. And that difference needs to be honored.  Come to your mat for an unscripted practice, and know that your practice will change as you do. 
As a teacher I am always also a student. The more I learn the more I know there is to learn!  I find great joy in sharing this practice with you. I look forward to meeting you on the mat.
My yoga philosophy
  • I believe anyone can benefit from the practice of yoga.
  • Yoga is learning to notice life one breath at a time.
  • Stillness and breath are gifts that help us experience our true self.
  • What we discover about ourselves on the mat, can be a springboard to how we live off the mat.
  • Humility is experienced on the mat as we accept our physical limitations.
  • Patience is learned on the mat as we hold poses that connect our breath and settle our minds.
  • Stillness and meditation that we find on our mat help us hear God’s loving voice.
  • The mind is powerful; add breath and movement, and the mind’s power is amplified.
  • Yoga can be practiced anywhere, anytime and by anyone. 

 

My family
I’ve been married to my husband, Walt, for 35 years. I can say that he is my biggest fan and supporter. We have two grown sons, whom I am very proud of, and now we are empty-nesters. We enjoy being able to travel when we can exploring different cultures and people. When around town our time is spent gardening, walking the dogs, going to the movies and sharing the company of family and good friends. At the center of our lives is our faith. We spend time at church, and volunteer when we can.

Managing the pain

I have been practicing yoga on and off for the past several years, which has been wonderful for my state of mind and flexibility. Working with Judi, though, showed me that it can also be useful for managing the pain and discomfort that come with having scoliosis.

Quality of Life

Judi taught me yoga poses that were specific to my scoliosis that I could use as a tool myself to control and decrease my pain. I love my Saturday morning yoga sessions

I feel my back loosen up, I've never experienced pain from scoliosis and I believe that's thanks to Judi. A side benefit I get from doing yoga for scoliosis is my mental health. I leave feeling so refreshed and happy. It's the best feeling.
