FAQ's

  • I’m not flexible, can I do yoga?

Yes! In fact, practicing yoga will increase your flexibility. I work with each person individually so you don’t have to worry about comparing yourself to others.

  • Is yoga appropriate for Christians to practice?

Many Christians worry that practicing yoga is contrary to a faith in Christ. Some studios do bring in Hindu elements but Yoga itself is not a religion. In a YogaFaith practice I weave in scriptures throughout or use a scripture from the Bible as a focus and intention. This type of practice is within the Bhakti tradition. Or a worshipful practice.

  • Will yoga fix my scoliosis?

I can’t claim that your scoliosis will be fixed or corrected with a yoga practice. But yoga postures that are designed specifically for your unique curve can derotate, elongate and strengthen the areas that need it most by working specifically on the muscles that surround the spine.  Many of my students notice improvement in their curve and in the reduction of pain.

  • I’m getting older and want to maintain my mobility. How can yoga help?

I am so glad you asked! Yoga is a beautiful form of moving and breathing that can most certainly help you to continue doing the activities you love.  As we age, we (including me!) need to take better care of our joints, improve or maintain our mobility, our balance and flexibility. A yoga practice either on a mat or in a chair can increase your range of motion while protecting your joints. Perhaps you are a runner or cyclist, you may want to add yoga to your life. Your body will let you know what you need if you listen.

I find that breath work (pranayama) and meditation to be very beneficial. As we age, reducing anxiety and stress affects us physically as well as emotionally.

  • How can I expect to improve if I choose to practice yoga?

Everyone who steps on the mat comes for different reasons. Most people come for the physical practice, but there are many other benefits from practicing yoga. Here are a few examples from some of my personal clients - stress reduction, lowered blood pressure, reduction of diabetes levels, improved self esteem, overall sense of wellbeing, deeper sleep, better balance and mobility and the list goes on!

The most important point to note is that the more you practice the more apparent the positive results will become. Come practice with me and you will see for yourself!
